Sharing of PhD students' introductory research experience: Successful lecture 1 of the first session of 2025 of the PhD Research Capacity Enhancement Program of CUFE Business School

On the afternoon of March 26, 2025, CUFE Business School held the first lecture of the first phase of CUFE Business School Doctoral Research Ability Enhancement Project 2025 in Conference Room 602. This lecture invited Professor Ji Xiaode from the Department of Organization and Human Resources Management at CUFE Business School as the keynote speaker. Professor Dou Chao, Director of the Doctoral Program at CUFE Business School, prepared and organized this event. The Doctoral Research Ability Enhancement Project is a characteristic project launched by CUFE Business School to improve the research ability of doctoral students. The project is conducted in the form of "lectures+tutoring", covering all core processes of academic research. The project is held once a year, with each session including several lectures covering multiple professional directions, including research topics, literature review, research design, methods and techniques, paper writing, paper submission and revision, and other topics.


This lecture was hosted by Professor Dou Chao, Director of the Doctoral Program at CUFE Business School, who first gave a brief introduction to the speaker, Professor Ji Xiaode. Professor Ji Xiaode is currently an assistant professor in the Department of Organization and Human Resource Management at CUFE Business School. He graduated from Guanghua School of Management, Peking University, and worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Management and Marketing at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, where his main research interests include employee assertive behavior, workplace emotions and leadership, among other areas.

Professor Ji Xiaode guided the doctoral students to expand their research ideas and methodological perspectives with examples from typical literature, and encouraged them to draw inspiration from their research by actively participating in various lectures and academic conferences. Further, based on her personal experience, she introduced in detail the whole process from the generation of research ideas to the submission of papers, pointed out that doctoral students should focus on solid preparation and the solution of real problems, and also emphasized the importance of communicating with co-authors and understanding the comments of reviewers, and encouraged doctoral students to look at the rejection of their papers with a calm mindset, and to learn and grow from every feedback.Regarding data collection, Professor Ji Xiaode proposed multiple criteria for data selection, such as relevance to the research question, authority and credibility, diversity of sources, popularity and influence, etc. In addition, Professor Ji Xiaode listed a variety of data sources, such as books, governmental data, social surveys, professional websites, social networks, and audio-visuals, and encouraged doctoral students to create their own sources of data and to enrich the dimension of the research Professor Ji Xiaode also encouraged the doctoral students to create their own data sources to enrich the dimension of their research. Finally, Professor Ji Xiaode introduced the logic of writing a job application package based on his personal experience in job searching, and advised doctoral students to build a coherent research framework and continue to cultivate their personal research areas, so as to build a solid foundation for their career development.


In this seminar, Professor Ji Xiaode 's brilliant sharing not only guided doctoral students in effective time management, but also provided practical and effective solutions to the challenges of submitting a dissertation. Combining their own experiences, the speakers provided a clear cognitive framework and effective practical guidance for doctoral students to get started with their research, and the content closely matched the actual needs of doctoral students, which was very inspiring to the students who attended the lecture. The continuation of this kind of lecture series fully demonstrates that CUFE Business School attaches great importance to and invests deeply in the support of doctoral students' academic capacity building and career development, which is of great significance to the improvement of the quality of postgraduate education in CUFE Business School.
