Prof. Chen Jin delivered a lecture titled "Does the Adoption of a Central Bank Digital Currency Stimulate Corporate Innovation? Evidence from Electronic Chinese Yuan Adoption". Based on data from the phased pilot of the digital Chinese yuan (e-CNY) in China, he explored the incentive effect of central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) on corporate innovation. The lecture analyzed how the digital yuan promotes the quantity, quality, and efficiency of corporate innovation by enhancing the transparency and traceability of government subsidies, alleviating corporate agency problems, and reducing financial constraints. A difference-in-differences research design showed that compared with the control group, R&D expenditures of pilot enterprises increased significantly, and innovation activities further boosted productivity, product differentiation, growth capacity, and profitability, enhancing corporate market competitiveness. Prof. Chen Jin's research revealed the positive contribution of CBDCs as financial technology innovations to the development of the real economy, providing profound academic inspiration to the audience.
After the lecture, faculty and students engaged in in-depth exchanges and lively discussions on topics such as the implementation mechanisms of the digital yuan, driving factors of corporate innovation, research methodology design, and future trends in financial technology, significantly enriching the collision and integration of academic ideas.
