On the evening of April 10, 2025, CUFE Business School successfully held the fourth lecture of CUFE Business School Academic Excellence Lecture Theatre 2025 in Conference Room A28 of MBA Education Center on College South Road Campus. Wai Fong Boh, Vice President of Nanyang Technological University and Presidential Chair Professor of Information Systems, was invited as the guest speaker. Ge Jianxin, Director of International Cooperation Office, and Lin Song, Dean of CUFE Business School and Director of MBA Education Center, attended the event.
The lecture was hosted by Professor Song Lin, Dean of CUFE Business School and MBA Education Center. Professor Lin Song gave a detailed introduction of Prof. Mok Wai Chiu's academic background. Professor Mok is currently the Vice-President for Lifelong Learning and Alumni Affairs at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and Co-Director of the Center for Computing Technologies in Finance (CCTF) at NTU. She received her PhD from the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University, USA, where her research covered knowledge management, innovation management and entrepreneurship. She is also actively involved in academic services and has been reviewing for international academic journals and research organizations for a long time.

The topic of this lecture is "Managerial Myopia, Incentives and Blockchain Implementation: The Moderating Role of Corporate Ecosystem Characteristics". Professor Mok explored the technological advantages and implementation challenges of blockchain as an ecosystem innovation in corporate operations. She analyzed the critical role of managers' long-term perspective in blockchain implementation based on the Upper Echelon Theory (UET) and the ecosystem perspective. The talk is centered on the following core elements: (1) how managers' short-sighted behaviors impede blockchain technology adoption; (2) how equity-based incentives can facilitate blockchain implementation; and (3) how key characteristics of corporate ecosystems (e.g., peer-to-peer blockchain implementation, geographic proximity, and network centrality) can modulate the realization of blockchain's value. Prof. Mo shared the results of the empirical study with data from A-share companies listed on the Shanghai and Shenzhen stock exchanges. The study showed that managers' short-sighted behavior poses an obstacle to blockchain implementation, while equity incentives play a positive role in promoting it. In addition, good ecosystem characteristics mitigate the need for managers' long-term perspectives, peer-to-peer implementation and geographic proximity mitigate the negative effects of myopic behavior, while network centrality may weaken incentive effects and exacerbate the negative effects of myopic behavior.
The lecture was insightful and provided participants with a novel perspective on the antecedents of blockchain implementation and contributed to the theoretical development of the top echelon theory and ecosystem perspective. After the lecture, the participating faculty and students engaged in a lively discussion on topics such as the practical application of blockchain technology, managers' decision-making behavior, the measurement of ecosystem characteristics, and the future direction of the research, which further deepened the breadth and depth of academic exchanges.
